This classic, two-ingredient chaffle is a fast, satisfying way to start your day. With just one egg and one ounce of cheese, you can make a delicious “cheese waffle” in minutes.
If you haven’t tried a chaffle yet, you’re in for a treat. A chaffle—short for cheese waffle—has become a favorite, especially in low-carb circles. I don’t strictly follow keto, but I’ve shared a few variations before that are great for different meals and preferences.

- My low-fat chaffle, which makes a tasty gluten-free sandwich substitute—this version uses egg whites and fat-free cheese.
- My 5-minute chicken parmesan chaffle, which is a quick, savory lunch option that adds canned chicken to the base egg and cheese.
How to make chaffles
For a classic chaffle, you only need two ingredients. It’s very forgiving, so you can scale it up or down, but for one serving I recommend:
- 1 medium egg
- 1 ounce Colby Jack or cheddar cheese
Whisk the egg and shredded cheese together until combined. Pour the mixture into a preheated non-stick mini waffle maker and cook until set and golden. A mini waffle maker is convenient for portion control and quick breakfasts—small models are inexpensive and very handy to keep on the counter.
This basic recipe is a great starting point. From here you can add vegetables, cooked ham, different cheeses, or even sweet ingredients like cinnamon and sugar substitutes to create many variations for breakfast, lunch, or snack time.
