Strawberry Tea Ingredient Notes

This Southern-style Strawberry Tea is simple to make, even for first-time homemade tea makers. Gather these basic ingredients:

  • Water – for steeping the tea and making the syrup.
  • Tea bags – classic black tea works well; try Earl Grey or green tea for a different profile.
  • Baking soda – a pinch helps neutralize tannins and reduce any bitterness.
  • Strawberries – fresh and chopped for the syrup.
  • Granulated sugar – sweetens and balances the fruit.

Finish each glass with a fresh strawberry garnish or slide a berry onto the rim for a pretty presentation.

How To Make Strawberry Tea

  1. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan, then remove from heat and steep the tea bags for about 5 minutes.
  2. Remove the tea bags and transfer the tea to a large pitcher.
  3. Add 4 cups of cold water and 1 teaspoon of baking soda to the pitcher to finish the base tea.
  4. In the same saucepan, combine the remaining 2 cups water with 4 cups chopped strawberries and 1½ cups granulated sugar. Simmer gently for about 20 minutes to make the strawberry simple syrup.
  5. Let the syrup cool to room temperature, then strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a small cup or pitcher, pressing the berries to extract the juice and discarding the pulp.
  6. Stir the strawberry syrup into the large pitcher of tea, mix well, then pour over ice and serve.

How To Store Strawberry Tea

Store the finished Strawberry Iced Tea covered in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Can You Taste The Baking Soda In This Strawberry Tea?

No — baking soda simply neutralizes tannins in black tea and reduces bitterness, improving the overall flavor.

Could I Exchange The Strawberries For Other Fruit?

Yes. Swap strawberries for blueberries, blackberries, or raspberries to create other fruit‑flavored iced teas. Adjust sweetness to taste.

This Iced Strawberry Tea uses a simple homemade strawberry syrup to sweeten freshly steeped tea in about 35 minutes. It’s fruity, sweet, and ideal for summer.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups water divided
  • 8 black tea bags
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 cups strawberries chopped
  • cups granulated sugar

Instructions

  • Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan.
  • Remove from heat, add the tea bags, and steep for 5 minutes.
  • Remove the tea bags and transfer the brewed tea to a large pitcher.
  • Add 4 cups cold water and 1 teaspoon baking soda to the pitcher and stir.
  • In the same saucepan, combine the remaining 2 cups water, chopped strawberries, and sugar. Simmer gently for 20 minutes to make the strawberry syrup.
  • Remove from heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature.
  • Strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve into a small pitcher, pressing to extract the juice; discard solids.
  • Stir the strawberry syrup into the pitcher of tea, then pour over ice and serve.

Notes

  • Baking soda reduces bitterness from the tea and isn’t detectable in the finished drink.
  • Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • This is a sweet tea; to reduce sweetness, halve the sugar and add lemon juice to brighten the flavor.
